Continuing Education
In September, 2009 both William Taylor and Cecilia Buck-Taylor attended a two day seminar presented by the Association of Divorce Financial Planners (“ADFP”). There were sessions on:
- Divorce in Tough Economic Times;
- The Dynamics of a Financial Planning Engagement;
- Determining Appropriate Amounts and Durations of Alimony/Spousal Maintenance in Divorce;
- Common Financial Mistakes Made During the Divorce Process;
- Life After the Mortgage Meltdown;
- Short Sales – Primary Residences;
- Special Issues Related to Divorce in Today’s Economy;
- What You Need to Know About Retirement Plans – Valuations vs. QDROs;
- Opportunities and Pitfalls Associated with Stock Options, Restricted Stock and Retirement Benefits;
- Health Insurance, COBRA and Proposed Healthcare Reforms: What You Need to Know;
- How to Make Straw Into Gold: Creative Ways of Arriving at Workable Outcomes When There Isn’t Enough Money to Go Around;
- Tax Issues in Divorce: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt Your Clients.
The ADFP had as its key note speakers Attorney Pauline Tesler and Dr. Peggy Thompson, two of the co-founders of Collaborative Law paradigm. They discussed how a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst and the Attorney work to understand the client(s)’ current financial situation to help the client(s) to develop his/her /their future financial picture and find common ground financially.
It was a great seminar and both Cecilia Buck-Taylor and William Taylor are looking forward to using this knowledge to further assist their clients in the Litchfield, Upper Fairfield and Waterbury areas.
